Why Join?

"According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy."

- Jerry Seinfeld

Toastmasters can help. Whether you need to speak publicly for your career or personal life, to run your meetings more effectively, to lead your group more effectively, or to do some self image improvement.

Business Breakfast Toastmasters helps you get over the fear of public speaking and teaches you how to channel that anxiety into presenting dynamic speeches that inspire your audience.

You are given all the tools necessary:
  • Opportunities to speak publicly in a safe environment
Toastmasters clubs are places where it's okay to make mistakes and to experiment. Line managers are not in the room. They wont notice if you slip up. What they will notice is difference in a few months' time as your confidence improves dramatically.

  • Educational manuals
Every member of BBC Toastmasters is provided with a full set of manuals that guides them through the process of learning the fundamentals of speech delivery through to advanced techniques.

  • A mentor
Our club is dedicated to helping you exceed your goals. We pair each of our new members with an experienced speaker. We have found that having someone who acts as a sounding board can be a huge boost.

  • Constructive evaluation
At work, it's highly unlikely that people will provide specific advice on how to improve your presentation skills. The most you're likely to get is "I thought it went well". At Toastmasters, we feel that immediate feedback can really help you to improve. Every one of our speeches is evaluated by someone in the audience.

  • Evaluating others
As part of the feedback process, you will be expected to evaluate others' speeches. This is great practice for work, as you develop your listening, leadership & managerial skills through evaluating others.

  • Listening to experienced speakers
Every meeting provides opportunities to learn. Each week, there are likely to be over a dozen speakers on stage. You will find speakers that match your preferred style and test out techniques that worked very well for them.

  • Progress tracking through our web-based software
Our interactive learning development system is provided online. This means that you can see your progress develop at any time.

Some reasons why people join Toastmasters:
  • Be a better public speaker
  • Improve job interviewing techniques
  • Communicate better
  • Learn how to lead, delegate, and motivate
  • Gain poise and self-confidence
  • Become more persuasive
  • Laugh and have fun!
